The Evening Muse

NOT YOUR AVERAGE OPEN MIC -- Every single month from April 2001 to March 2020, Tosco Music hosted an eclectic, supportive, family-friendly evening of singalongs and solo performances from all ages and experience levels. We're so excited to announce that in August, we're back!

Tosco Music Open Mic will resume once a month on first Wednesdays (with rare exceptions) at The Evening Muse in the NoDa area of Charlotte, NC.

We enjoy a unique gathering of music lovers of all kinds -- you might see a 9 year old stun you with his a capella version of a soul classic, a 70 year old surprise you with a sweet ballad, a 40-something banker-by-day, singer-songwriter-by-heart share an original song, or a trio of teens take the room by storm with unexpected skill and talent.

Tosco Music audiences are the most enthusiastic supporters of musicians of all kinds, and first-time performers of all ages are especially welcomed.

We never know who we'll see or what special gifts of music we'll be treated to -- come enjoy the music, or share your own!

Sign ups start at 7pm. Anyone can sign up to perform! Performance slots are first come, first pick, although order may be slightly rearranged to accommodate young students who need the earliest times slots.

The Evening Muse collects a cover charge of $5 at the door that supports The Evening Muse's travelling musicians fund which helps performers cover their gas and lodging on the road. Adults visiting The Evening Muse for the first time will pay an additional annual $1 membership registration. Guests under 17 need an accompanying adult to enter.

The Evening Muse is at 3227 N. Davidson Street at the corner of 36th Street in NoDa.

From The Evening Muse July 27, 2021: For the safety of ALL staff, guests, and performers we are requiring that EVERYONE entering The Evening Muse wear a mask. REGARDLESS of whether you have been vaccinated or not. We continue to strongly urge everyone to get fully vaccinated, so that we can hopefully get to the end of this Global Pandemic.

    Tosco Music Open Mic

  • The music parties are an indie-music institution in Charlotte, so popular they often fill a 1,200-seat hall, with a roster of performers that has included everyone from American Idol contestants to The Avett Brothers.

  • What started 20 years ago as a jam session in John Tosco’s living room has bloomed into one of the region’s most unique regional events – and a coveted gig for unsigned artists.

  • A Tosco Music Party is a theatre in the round of sorts for acoustic musicians. It's a medium that breaks down artificial barriers between entertainers and audience.

  • Maybe you’ve never heard the new folk trio out of Chapel Hill or the dulcimer player from Appalachia. Maybe you’ll marvel over a double-necked guitar solo or a 13-year-old classical pianist. Whatever you’re seeking, this incredible, quarterly variety show will make you grateful to have John Tosco curating your musical adventure.

  • Think of Tosco Music Party as the musical equivalent of walking into Ben & Jerry's and saying: 'I'd like a spoonful of everything, please.'
