Local nonprofit Tosco Music Parties celebrate musicians of all ages, skill levels and genres
By Laura Barrero
Tosco Music, Barrero writes, is a "grassroots organization in Charlotte for musicians and music lovers alike. For years, the group has helped foster the growth and vibrance of the city's music scene. Going on 25 years of existence, the local nonprofit hosts open mic nights and music festivals year-round in Charlotte. It also provides scholarships to musicians of all ages."
Note: John Tosco began presenting Tosco Music Parties (TMPs) in the mid-1980's and the popular variety concerts grew into a nonprofit organization in 1999 with added outreach programs that along with TMPs initially included a family-friendly open mic, youth music scholarships and live music presented in senior communities. Now, Tosco Music provides access to live music across Charlotte as well as supports local musicians of all ages and experience levels with music scholarships and access to performance opportunities including paid gigs for working musicians, as many as 100 per year at 30 different locations.
