The first month that The Evening Muse opened its doors fifteen years ago, Joe Kuhlmann and John Tosco partnered to put together what was then called the Tosco House Party Open Mic Night. Since then, every month with very few exceptions music lovers have gathered for an opening set of singalongs where anyone can bring an instrument and play along. Afterward, performers of all ages and skill levels take the stage, many performing onstage for the very first time, thanks to the supportive audience that makes them feel welcome. The three dollar cover charge goes to The Evening Muse's travelling musician fund to support touring musicians who come through Charlotte midweek and play for smaller audiences.  

Says parent Ananda Underwood of her son's experience at Open Mic, "Dylan has played at open mics before, and enjoyed them. Never one like John offers though. The sing-a-long circle in the beginning allows him to play with other musicians and learn songs he may not have heard before. This is his favorite part of the open mic! It's a welcoming stage and he truly enjoys it."
